Former Blachawk and two time Stanley Cup winner Andrew Ladd has been named Captain for the Atlanta Trashers. Ladd is actually the youngest player in the NHL with 2 rings.
Another familiar face was given one of the A's for his sweater, Dustin Byfuglien.
My question is why no love for the other two former Hawks on the team, Brent Sopel and Ben Eager?
This is a great sign for Ladd that a contract might not be far behind since his contract is up at the end of the season.
Ladder says he has seen some of the best wear the C in his short career:
“I had the opportunity to play under Rod Brind’Amour, who to me is one of the greatest captains I’ve ever seen. I’m pretty good buddies with Eric Staal and I see how he approaches things and what he does. The list goes on and on there. There was Glen Wesley and Doug Weight and Mark Recchi and Ray Whitney and guys like that who I definitely learned a lot form at a young age on how to approach the game and what you need to do to be successful as a pro. Then moving on to Chicago and having the opportunity to see Jonathan Toews grow as a young leader and how he has handled that situation- it was a great opportunity for me to see how he handled and it what he needed to do to really control the situation.”
Ladd is currently the Trashers in points with 19, 7 goals which is good enough for second on the team and 12 assists also second on the team. Big Buff is third when it comes to goals and assists but actually second on the team in points while guarding the blue line.
Congrats to both Ladd and Buff, we miss you both in Chicago.
