Six players were voted into the NHL All-Star game on Tuesday. Captain Jonathan Toews and reigning Norris Trophy winner Duncan Keith are joined by four members of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Toews had the second most votes for the forwards behind top vote getter Sidney Crosby while Keith was also second among defensemen behind write in Kris Letang.
The NHL is trying something a little new this year with captains being picked and then letting them pick their teams just like they are out in the playground. The teams names will come from the last name of their Captain. There are rules for the draft. Each team will have 3 goalies and all must be selected by their 10th pick and all defensemen must be picked by the 15th round leaving the forwards to be picked whenever.
Coach Q will get the chance to coach one team while the other coach will be based on winning percentage at a later date.
A few other Hawks have a chance of making it to the game. Brent Seabrook and Patrick Kane both finished 5th respectively at their positions. Marian Hossa also has an outside shot but may have missed too many games since he has missed time with two injuries. The player with the best chance of joining Toews and Keith is the only other Hawks with a letter on his jersey which is Patrick Sharp.
The rest of the All-Stars will be announced on January 11 with the teams being picked on the 28th and the game being played on January 30.
I think with the fan voting it has given us two clear captains which is Toews and Crosby and I can not wait to see how this plays out and hopefully Sid the Kid won't come up with some mystery injury like every other time he has had to play Capt Toews.
