Stanley Cup Finals Game 1: First Period
After one in Chicago the Bruins have a 1-0 lead in Game 1
For the Bruins, Milian Lucic put them on the board first with a wrist shot in front of the net at 13:11. Hawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson went for a hit on Krejci instead of playing the puck who got it to Horton who then passed it on to Lucic. Johnny Oduya had followed the puck behind the net which left Lucic open in front of the net
Aside from the goal, Corey Crawford was solid with several very impressive saves, stopping 10 of the 11 shots. Rask was solid for the Bruins stopping all seven shots he faced but wasn't texted much by Chicago.
Coach Quenneville clearly wanted the Hawks to come out hitting with the addition of Brandon Bollig to the lineup. However while they clearly more physical early on each team was credited with 17 hits. Those keeping track at home, Bollig tallied three minutes of ice time in the first.
Also for all those making a big deal about Kane & Toews not skating on the same line, you didn't have to wait long for them to be reunited. About half way through the first Q started jumbling the lines with all of the top three lines seeing changes. Toews was reunited with Bickell and Kane, while Sharp saw time with Shaw and Bolland, leaving Hossa with Saad and Handzus.
Is that hoe they will come out to start the second? We will just have to wait and see.
