The Rockford Icehogs, the Chicago Blackhawks' AHL affliate, is set to open training camp on September 22. Today they announced 13 non-contracted players and five contracted players who will be at camp. Some of these names might sound familiar because they were part of the nine players cut for the Blackhawks camp yesterday.

Of the non-contracted players they invited six forwards (Kyle Bodie, Jared Brown, Emerson Clark, Danile Koger, Matt Lowry &  Kyle Stroph) and seven defenseman (Arthur Bidwell, CJ Chartrain, Antoine Corbin, Joe Gleason, Bobby Shea, Tristin Llewellyn & Jordan Southorn). The five players that are under contract are Pat Mullane, Wade Brookbank, Brad MIlls, Jared Nightingale and Viktor Svedberg.

Mills and Svedberg were the only contracted players not part of the Hawks camp but Svedberg was part of the prospect camp this summer. Gleason & Shaw were the only non-contracted players to be at Hawks' camp.

In addition to this group David Gilbert will also be at the Icehogs camp. The Hawks had assigned him to Rockford in their first round of cuts.

I would expect the Hawks to make a big cut after their next two preseason games in order to provide the Icehogs with as many players that will be on their roster for the season before camp starts. A few will stay with the Hawks probably right up until the season starts as they battle for roster spots.

Forwards Mark McNeill &Philip Danault, defenseman Adam Clendening &Klas Dahlbeck and goalies Mac Carruth and Kent Simpson will probably highlight that next round of cuts. Unless of course they impress over the next few days.

We will just have to wait and see. The Icehogs open the season October 5 in San Antonio.
