The Blackhawks had an interesting opener to their preseason opener on Monday. First the good

Patrick Sharp scored the first goal of the game on a pretty set up by Jeremy Morin. Brent Seabrook got the secondary assist. However Morin wasn't the only young guy to get on the score sheet.

It first looked like Jimmy Hayes put the Hawks up 2-0 but Ben Smith tipped it in. Veteran Marcus Kruger also tallied an assist on the goal. It's funny to referring to Kruger as a veteran but it is true.

Finally goaltender Corey Crawford looked sharp stopping all 19 shots he faced from the Redwings.

Now the bad, defenseman Michael Kostka left the game in the first period after an illegal hit by Teemu Pulkkin.  The hit happened just about two minutes and Pulkkin received a game misconduct.

Coach Joel Quenneville described the hit as "very dangerous" after the game. He also said that Kostka isn't bad but couldn't return to the game and they hope to know more on Wednesday.

The Hawks next will host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday. Before the game the two teams will have a press conference at Soldier Field to promote their outdoor game that will be held in March. Rocky Wirtz will be there for the Hawks while GM Ray Shero will be there on behalf of the Penguins.

Thursday's game will be broadcast in Comcast Sportsnet, unlike Tuesday's game which could only be heard through WGN radio's website. It will be the first of two matchups this preseason between the two teams. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
