With the 30th pick in the 2013 NHL draft the Chicago Blackhawks select: Ryan Hartman. And West Dundee went nuts.

The newest member of the Blackhawks organization is a local kid.  Growing up in West Dundee and attended Fremd High School. His favorite team is the Hawks and of course his favorite player is Jonathan Toews.

Hartman is a 5'11 187 lbs forward capable of playing on either wing or lining up at center. He also doesn't mind throwing his body around or dropping the gloves (as you can see in the video below)

He spent last since with Plymouth in the OHL. During the season he scored 23 goals and tallied 37 assists in 56 games. Over the winter he was part of the USA U20 IIHF team which won the Gold medal this past January in Russia. During the tournament he tallied 3 points (1G,2A) in 7 games.

Hartman expects to return to the OHL next season, therefore he might join the Icehogs in fall of 2014 and then maybe we will see him in Chicago in the fall of 2015. That might be a little fast but Brandon Saad & Andrew Shaw helped the Hawks hoist the Stanley Cup just 2 years after being drafted.

If the talent is there and there is a spot for it, the Hawks aren't afraid to move it quickly through the system.

Some scouts have made the comparison of Hartman being a bigger, more skilled Andrew Shaw. If he can even equal the toughness that Shaw provides the Hawks will be very happy with his kid going forward.
