The Hawks took care of business Friday night in Motown and now they just need 1 more point to clinch a spot in the playoffs. Interesting how the Hawks are currently the only team in the top 8 that could miss the playoffs but there is a good chance they will finish higher then 8th and might be facing these very same Redwings in the first round.

With their victory Friday it gives Chicago 97 points which is 2 points more then the 9th place Stars. Therefore they just need to win or lose in overtime to make the Sunday night Stars-Wild game meaningless. If they happen to beat Detroit again on Sunday then the Hawks will finish with 99 points and possibly lock them in the 7th seed and most likely will face not the Redwings but old friend Antti Niemi and his San Jose Sharks.

The Ducks-Kings game is Saturday night so the Hawks will know exactly where they stand when they take the ice Sunday morning. It will be very interesting to see how things play out over the next 24 hours.

An interesting sidenote. If it wasn't for a rule change in tiebreakers the Hawks would already have clinched a playoff spot but now instead of total wins being the tiebreaker it is regulation wins not total.

Anyone else impressed by the Hawks rookies by the way? Huge goals the past 2 games by Nick Leddy and Ben Smith and let's not forget the play of Corey Crawford in net. The future is going to be very bright.
