Canucks shutout Hawks in Game 1
That was the worst first period I think I have ever seen the Hawks play. It was very clear from the beginning that Vancouver came out with a purpose and a mission while besides Corey Crawford it looked like the Hawks were just happy to be there.
The Canucks had 47 hits in the game which was more then twice what the defending champs had (21).Vancouver scored the only 2 goals of the game within the first 10 minutes and 23 seconds of the game. They had 13 shots in the first period and dominated the puck. The Hawks continued to struggle on the power play going 0-3, with all 3 chances coming in the second and third period.
After the first period Chicago played much more like we are used to seeing but it wasn't enough. Roberto Lungo might have excercised some of his demons in stopping all of the Hawks 32 shots with a lot of help from the posts. There were several shots that everyone on the ice including Roberto that were shocked the red light wasn't on behind him.
I was tweeting very angry things during the game mostly about the play of three of the defensemen. Duncan Keith and Brian Campbell need to get their heads out of their asses while Nick Leddy needs to catch his breath and play like he was a month ago. Soupy was on the ice for both goals while Keith had an awful turnover that lead to Hansen's breakaway. Nick Leddy has just looked lost for about the last week and might need to sit in place of the more experienced Cullimore.
Only injury of note was Tomas Kopecky who only skated 4 shifts before leaving with an upper body injury. Troy Brouwer looked good in his return from a shoulder injury and hopefully we will see the return of Dave Bolland sooner rather then later.
Let's hope the Hawks come out with the same fire they played the last 2 periods with otherwise Patrick Kane might have in fact cut his hair for a short trip in the playoffs.
Game 2 is Friday at 9 PM Central. Hopefully when the Hawks take the ice Sunday at the UC the series will be tied 1-1.
